This notice is provided in compliance with Florida law regarding the personal data of consumers under the age of 18. Personal information of Florida residents under 18 is considered "sensitive" information under Florida law.

1. Introduction

Welcome to SlammedU, an online platform operated by SlammedU LLC ("Company," "we," "us," or "our"). Our platform is designed to help incoming freshmen find roommates and make connections before arriving on campus. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and protect the information you provide to us when you use our website, applications, and related services (collectively, the "Services").

2. Consent

By submitting your information to SlammedU, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy, including the collection, use, and sharing of your information as described herein. If you disagree with any part of this policy, please refrain from using our Services.

3. Information We Collect (Notice at Collection)

We collect information to facilitate your use of our platform and enhance your experience. The types of information we collect, and the purposes for which we collect it, include:

Information You Provide to Us

  • Personal Information: Full name, email address, phone number, and Instagram username
  • Profile Information: Up to 10 photos of yourself, a brief biography, and your graduation year
  • Contact Information: Additional social media handles (optional), hometown, and other contact details you choose to share
  • Location Information: Country, state, and city information (precise geolocation is collected only if you enable this feature)
  • Preference Data: Living habits, study preferences, interests, and roommate compatibility information
  • User Communications: Messages, comments, and other content you send through direct messaging, commenting, and similar features
  • Payment Information: Payment details processed securely through Stripe and Venmo (we do not store your full payment information)

Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Data: Information about how you interact with our platform, including form submissions, page views, and session activity
  • Device Information: Your IP address, device identifiers, operating system and version, preferred language, hardware identifiers, browser type and settings, and other device information
  • Technical Information: Information about your internet connection and usage details about your interactions with the Services, including clickstream information to, through, and from our Services (including date and time), pages you view or search for, page response times, download errors, length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information (such as scrolling, clicks, and mouse-overs), and methods used to browse away from a page
  • Information from Cookies and Similar Technologies: We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to collect information about your browsing activity. See Section 4 below for more details.

Aggregated and Statistical Information

We may derive non-personal statistical or aggregated data from personal data. For example, we may aggregate personal data to calculate the percentage of users accessing a specific Services feature. Statistical or aggregated data does not directly identify a specific person.

Sensitive Personal Information

Under California and other state laws, certain categories of personal information are considered "sensitive personal information" ("SPI"). We collect the following SPI:

  • Account log-in credentials: Your email address and any credentials used to access the Services
  • Precise geolocation data: Only if you enable this feature
  • Personal data of Florida residents under 18: Treated as sensitive under Florida law

We do not use or disclose SPI beyond what is necessary to provide and secure the Services, process transactions, prevent fraud, or as otherwise permitted under applicable law (including California Civil Code §1798.121). California residents may request to limit the use and disclosure of SPI by contacting slammeduniversity@gmail.com.

CCPA Categories of Personal Information Collected (Last 12 Months)

For purposes of the California Consumer Privacy Act, SlammedU has collected the following categories of personal information in the past 12 months:

  • Identifiers (name, email, phone, Instagram username, IP address, device identifiers)
  • Customer records (billing information, purchase history)
  • Protected classifications (age in certain cases)
  • Commercial information (subscription history, transaction data)
  • Internet or electronic network activity (usage data, cookies, session replay)
  • Geolocation data (country, state, city; precise geolocation only if enabled)
  • Audio, electronic, visual, or similar information (photos, videos, messages)
  • Professional or education-related information (graduation year, university)
  • Inferences drawn from the above (roommate compatibility profiles)
  • Sensitive personal information (log-in credentials; minors' data in Florida)

4. How We Collect Your Personal and Other Data

You Provide Information to Us

We collect information about you when you interact with our Services, including when you complete a signup form, subscribe or make a purchase, participate in surveys or promotions, send messages or comments to other users, or create, upload, or post content to the Services.

Automatically Through Our Services

As you navigate through and interact with our Services, we use automatic data collection technologies to collect information that may include personal data. Technologies we use include:

  • Cookies: Small files placed on your device when you interact with the Services. You may refuse or disable cookies through your browser settings, though this may affect certain features.
  • Web Beacons: Small electronic files (also known as clear gifs, pixel tags, or single-pixel gifs) that permit us to count users who have visited certain pages or opened an email.
  • Session Replay Technology: Analytics tools that record and replay user sessions on our Services, including mouse movements, clicks, scrolls, and page interactions, to help us understand how users interact with our Services.

Third-Party Platforms

When you interact with the Services, third parties may use automatic collection technologies to collect information about you or your device. These third parties include:

  • Meta/Instagram:The Service operates in part on Instagram, owned by Meta. Your use of Instagram is subject to Meta's privacy policies and terms.
  • PostHog: We use PostHog for analytics, session replays, and usage tracking to understand how users interact with our Services.
  • Stripe: We use Stripe for secure payment processing.
  • Twilio: We use Twilio to deliver SMS notifications.

These third parties may use tracking technologies to collect information about you when you use the Services. The information they collect may be associated with your personal data, or they may collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites, apps, platforms, and other online services.

5. How We Use Your Information

The information you provide is used for the following purposes:

  • Platform services: To post your submitted content on our Instagram accounts, operate direct messaging and commenting features, and connect you with other incoming college students at your university
  • Roommate matching: To use our AI-powered system to match you with compatible roommates based on your preferences and responses
  • Communication: To send you confirmation emails, match notifications, subscription and billing acknowledgments, and important updates about your submissions
  • Payment processing: To process payments for our services through secure third-party payment processors
  • Platform improvement: To analyze your information and create aggregated data to develop, maintain, analyze, improve, optimize, measure, and report on our Services and their features. Our analysis may include the use of technology like machine learning and large language models.
  • Customer support: To provide assistance and respond to your inquiries
  • Enforce our rights: To carry out our obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and us, including for billing and collection
  • Service updates: To notify you when Services updates are available and about changes to any products or services we offer
  • Advertising and marketing: To promote our Services, business, and offerings by publishing advertising on our own Services and by placing ads on third parties' services. This includes using your submitted photos, videos, biographical information, name, username, and likeness in SlammedU marketing, advertising, and promotional materials across our applications, websites, social media accounts, emails, printed materials, pitch and sponsorship decks, and advertising placements on third-party platforms. We may use your information to model, segment, target, offer, market, and advertise our Services. SlammedU does not sell your photographs or other User Content to third parties, and does not license them to third parties for the third party's own independent advertising. See Section 7.2 of our Terms of Service for the full license you grant in connection with this use.
  • Safety and abuse prevention: To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, harassment, abuse, or illegal conduct, including reviewing reports of inappropriate User Communications
  • Fulfill other purposes: To fulfill any other purpose for which you provide information to us

6. How We Share Your Information

We may share your information in the following instances:

  • Public posting and promotional use: Your submitted photos, bio, and contact information will be publicly posted on our Instagram accounts and may also appear in SlammedU marketing, advertising, and promotional materials across our applications, websites, social media accounts, emails, printed materials, and advertising placements on third-party platforms. This content is accessible to other users and the general public.
  • Roommate matching: Your profile information and preferences will be shared with potential roommate matches through our matching system.
  • User-to-user communications: Content you send through direct messages, comments, and similar features is shared with the user(s) you send it to. Be mindful of what you share.
  • Service providers: With third-party vendors and service providers who need access to your information to perform services on our behalf (including payment processors, analytics providers, cloud storage providers, SMS providers, and email services).
  • Legal requirements: If we believe that disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with any applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
  • Business transfers: In connection with any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business by another company.
  • Advertising partners: With third-party advertising networks and partners who help us deliver targeted advertisements on our Services and on third-party platforms. These partners may receive information about your interactions with our Services to deliver relevant ads to you.
  • Safety and security: To protect the rights, property, or safety of SlammedU, our users, or others.

CCPA Categories of Personal Information Disclosed (Last 12 Months)

In the past 12 months, we have disclosed the following categories of personal information for business purposes:

  • Identifiers (to payment processors, SMS providers, email providers, analytics providers)
  • Commercial information (to payment processors and analytics)
  • Internet or electronic network activity (to analytics providers)
  • Audio, electronic, visual, or similar information (to cloud storage and social media distribution)
  • Geolocation (to analytics and advertising providers, as applicable)

No Sale of Personal Information

SlammedU does not sell personal information as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act. We do not sell or share personal information of any consumer we know is under 16 years old. For purposes of certain state laws, our use of third-party analytics and advertising cookies may be considered "sharing." You may opt out by contacting slammeduniversity@gmail.com or by using recognized opt-out signals as described in Section 10.

7. How We Protect Your Personal Data

We use commercially reasonable administrative, physical, and technical measures designed to protect your personal data from accidental loss or destruction and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. However, no website, mobile application, system, electronic storage, or online service is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of your personal data transmitted to, through, using, or in connection with the Services. Any transmission of personal data is at your own risk.

Breach Notification

If we become aware of a security breach that compromises your personal information, we will notify you and appropriate authorities in accordance with applicable law.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide our Services and fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy. Specifically:

  • Active account data: Retained for as long as your account remains active
  • Profile photos and User Content: Retained during active subscription; subject to the Terms of Service license, materials already incorporated into published marketing or advertising may be retained indefinitely
  • Communications (messages, comments): Retained while your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to fulfill legal, security, and safety purposes
  • Data after account deletion: Upon account deletion or request for deletion, we will delete or de-identify your personal data within 90 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, regulatory, or legitimate business purposes
  • Payment records: Retained for up to 7 years as required for tax and accounting purposes
  • Aggregated or de-identified data: May be retained indefinitely as it does not identify you personally

At the end of the applicable retention period, personal data will be deleted, destroyed, or de-identified. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at slammeduniversity@gmail.com.

9. Cross-Border Data Transfer

SlammedU LLC is based in the United States. Your personal data may be accessed, processed, or transferred to the United States or other countries where our team members, service providers, or partners are located. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction. By using our Services, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States and other countries as described in this Privacy Policy. We take reasonable steps to ensure your personal data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy regardless of where it is processed.

10. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal information. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at slammeduniversity@gmail.com.

  • Access: You can request access to the personal information we have about you.
  • Correction: You can request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Deletion: You can request deletion of your personal information.
  • Data Portability: You can request a copy of your data in a portable format.
  • Opt-out: You can unsubscribe from our marketing communications at any time.
  • Cookies and Tracking Technologies: You can set your browser to refuse all or some browser cookies or other tracking technology files, or to alert you when these files are being sent. Disabling cookies may limit certain Service features.
  • Promotional Communications: If you do not wish us to use your information to promote our own or third parties' products or services, you can opt out by contacting slammeduniversity@gmail.com.
  • Targeted Advertising: To the extent any automated data collection technologies are used for targeted advertising or profiling under applicable laws, you may opt out by contacting slammeduniversity@gmail.com.

Do Not Track Signals

Our Services do not currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" (DNT) signals, because no uniform industry standard has been adopted. Third parties may collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites; please see their privacy policies for information about their DNT practices.

Global Privacy Control

For California, Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, and other residents whose state law requires recognition of universal opt-out mechanisms, we will treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for the device and browser transmitting the signal.

Verification of Requests

When you submit a privacy request, we may require you to verify your identity by confirming information we already have on file, such as the email address or phone number used at signup. We respond to verified requests within 45 days, and may extend the period by an additional 45 days if reasonably necessary (with notice to you).

Authorized Agents

You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. We may require written authorization from you and verification that the agent is authorized to act for you.

Appeals

If we deny your privacy request, you may appeal our decision by replying to the denial email or contacting slammeduniversity@gmail.com with the subject line "Privacy Request Appeal." We will respond to your appeal within 45 days (or 60 days in certain states), explaining our decision.

11. State-Specific Privacy Rights

This section provides additional information for residents of U.S. states with comprehensive privacy laws. If you are a resident of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Delaware, Iowa, Tennessee, Indiana, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Nebraska, Maryland, Minnesota, Rhode Island, Kentucky, or another state with comparable privacy laws, the rights below may apply to you. California (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and the sources of that information
  • Access a copy of your personal information in a portable format
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to exceptions
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell; for our sharing practices, see Section 6)
  • Limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information
  • Not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your privacy rights

California Minors (SB 568, the Eraser Law). California residents under 18 may request removal of content they have posted on our Services. To request removal, contact slammeduniversity@gmail.com. We will remove the content or anonymize it in accordance with applicable law. Removal may not be possible in all circumstances (for example, where content has been copied or reposted by another user, or is required to be retained by law).

Shine the Light (California Civil Code §1798.83). California residents may request information about our disclosure of certain categories of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. SlammedU does not share personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing. You may send inquiries to slammeduniversity@gmail.com.

Florida (Florida Digital Bill of Rights)

Florida residents have the rights listed above, with additional protections for residents under 18 whose personal data is treated as sensitive. Florida residents may contact slammeduniversity@gmail.com to exercise their rights.

Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Delaware, Iowa, Tennessee, Indiana, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Nebraska, Maryland, Minnesota, Rhode Island, Kentucky

Residents of these states have the right to:

  • Access their personal information
  • Correct inaccuracies
  • Delete personal information
  • Obtain a portable copy of personal information
  • Opt out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, or certain automated profiling

Appeal Rights (Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other states)

If we deny a privacy request, you have the right to appeal. See the Appeals subsection of Section 10.

12. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

Our Services are primarily used by individuals aged 17 and 18. If you are under 18, please review this Privacy Policy with a parent or guardian before using our Services. We do not knowingly sell or share personal information of consumers under 16.

13. SMS and Email Communications

SMS. If you provide your mobile phone number, you consent to receive transactional text messages from SlammedU (for example, subscription confirmations, posting notifications, match notifications, and account updates). You may opt out of SMS by replying STOP to any text from us or by contacting slammeduniversity@gmail.com. Marketing SMS is sent only if you provide separate affirmative consent. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies.

Email. You may unsubscribe from marketing emails by clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email or by contacting slammeduniversity@gmail.com. Transactional emails (subscription, billing, match notifications, policy updates) are part of the Service and cannot be opted out of while your account is active.

14. Changes to This Policy

We review and update this Privacy Policy at least every 12 months. We will notify you of significant changes (for example, via email, SMS, or Instagram post). Your continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy. Previous versions are retained and available upon request by contacting slammeduniversity@gmail.com.
